More than 100 years ago, huge Teak trees were felled in the ancient hardwood forests of Central Java. As there was no use for them at that time and they were difficult to remove, the roots were left in the ground. Because Teak roots are also resistant to rot, they inhibited proper regeneration of the plantation.

In the past a common practice to free up the land was to try to burn out the stump. Teak roots do not burn well, typically only charring where burning fuel makes contact. Consequently, rather than trying to burn them the farmers simply left the roots in the ground and moved on to other land to farm.

Local farmers now extract the roots, many of which have been in the ground for decades, and make the land available for replanting. The Teak roots are then made available to be converted into wonderfully unique, organically shaped, artistic furniture.

Proper government permits have been granted and our suppliers are licensed to remove the roots from the plantations.

Styles of furniture using Teak Roots range from Sofa's and Benches to Dining Tables, Coffee Tables and Arm Chairs.

Some Custom work is available.
